reflecting on this country and the 21(coming to 22 soon enough) years ive lived in it, i can say that there are plenty of things wrong with it.
but when it gets things right, it gets things right.
honestly, as long as your a singaporean, whether a jaded student overseas who finds little merit in this country, or someone who just cant give a flying fuck about national day... everyone, i feel, knows and respects this song. when you hear it, you cant just keep walking on by and NOT be affected. it pulls on your heartstrings and gets you murmuring or at least humming the next few lines.
im not a patriot by any means. but i recognise the importance of something that can link every citizen of this country no matter who they are or what their doing. this song stretches across borders, be it age, religion or culture, to deliver a message that is THE founding block of SINGAPOREAN society- unity.

"Screw YOU guys... im goin home."
